Message I made some decent progress on my project so I thought I'd post an update here. I try to keep these posts brief, but as usual the full stories/pictures/videos are at my website [ http://www.fuergrissa.net ]

when I left off after my last update I think I had just finished sandblasting and priming the chassis, and replacing a few rusty bits.

As for the new stuff, I wanted to add back a bit of sound deadening to improve the ride quality, but I didn't want to throw down 100lbs of butyl mat, and I also didn't like the look of those products, even though they are not seen I think it would bother me, so I used a spray on product called Spectrum from secondskinaudio.com. Being done with it I'm really glad I went with this product. I don't know how well it will dampen the noise compared to a butyl mat, because I've never used it, but it seems to help a lot with the re-verb when I tap on the floor pan etc. so It's doing something pretty well. The real reason I'm pleased though is the finish after it's dry is like a bed liner in texture and durability. I originally planed to go over the underbody with rubberized undercoat after the Spectrum, but I really don't think it will be necessary now. Anyhow here's a few pics of the result. I put a video up on my site for this project, and I'm getting better at keeping the video's short and sweet, so It shouldn't be too bad. also not trying to host my own videos anymore so it should stream better.

Next I was concerned about the condition of my fuel tank being 20+ years old, and knowing it was one of the first things to go back on to the car I wanted to refinish it. The tank had a bit of surface rust on the outside, so i figured it might on the inside as well. I picked up a sealer kit from the local jobber and got to work

I ended up just using the cleaner and the neutralizer though, because after opening the tank I found the inside was in pristine condition, and also because I noticed our tanks have a plastic sump for the pickup and I was concerned how well the sealer would adhere to it. Last thing I wanted was flakes coming off and clogging the system.

at the same time I was going through the endless cycle of pouring in product, rotating the tank, wait, rotate, wait etc. over and over, along with the endless rinsing between products I cleaned up the outside with a wire wheel and spot primed.

Then I hit it with some rubberized undercoat from Dupli-color. That stuff came out really nice as well.

Finally I wanted to do something about my brake lines. I was elated to find I could buy a whole set of hardlines from courtesy parts for about 125$ and have brand new OEM all around, I was less so to find that shipping was going to put the total up to 300$. So I separated all my hardline assemblies, ditched the HICAS and Fuel lines I won't be reusing and got to work cleaning them up with some steel wool. I didn't really do that good of a job, but they came out okay, so I primed em and sprayed with VHT hi-temp out of a rattle can. The cap was gray, but the final color was had a strong blue metallic tint in direct sun. I don't care for it, but I don't expect my brake lines to see much sun anyway, and they look okay in the shade.

Also got the blaster out at the same time and cleaned up the brackets, as well as exhaust hangers and some suspension bits I had laying around. The plastic tubing separators got degreased with soap and water. all the metal bit's got painted satin black.

Also have a bunch of great products in the mail I can't wait to install, and hope to get a bunch more soon. My daughter is particularly enamored with Brett Dempsy's fuel rail kit I got in most recently, as am I. BTW for anyone else who is interested Brett's rails CAN KEEP your cruise control. This was an issue for me, but Brett made some extra modifications to the kit and my cores to make it work, and now offers it as a service as well. more on the fuel system in a later update, just wanted to get the word out. BTW A++ experience with brett on everything, outstanding guy.

"throttle body" is now one of her new favorite words =)
